Objectives The project objective is to develop a computer model that can be used to forecast the distribution of new car sales by engine size, fuel type, etc, per annum to 2031. This model will show how the distribution of new car sales reacts to changes in economic variables and policies.
Abstract The aim of the project was to improve the DTLR’s knowledge of the factors that influence people’s decisions when they buy new cars. There have been doubts about the way the Vehicle Market Model allocates new car sales and whether it sufficiently reflects the effects of income and other variables that could be important in determining purchasing decisions of new car buyers. This project undertook new research to improve on the understanding of how people make new car purchasing decisions, resulting in a more robust and policy sensitive model.
